Country Roads... Take Me Home

Amelia and I just spent 2 weeks in good old West Virginia visiting my family and meeting so many people who were so instrumental in my upbringing. I was glad that I got to take her and introduce her to so many people, not that she will remember, but I will.

Amanda and her 2 boys were also able to go out, so the Schirtzingers had all TEN, yes TEN grandkids together. Ok, so they were actually only together 3 days total of the 2 weeks since Emma went to Girl's Camp, and Nick went to Scout camp. But still, TEN grandkids!

Ben is 5 and he absolutely adored Amelia. He loves babies. Every time he would come over or we would go to his house, he would immediately drop what he was doing, run to the bathroom to wash his hands, then he would proudly announce that he had washed his hands and he would shove them in my face and say, "See? Smell!" It was adorable, he constantly wanted to hold her, give her her bottle, was sharing his own toys, was disappointed when she wasn't interested in his toys, he was such a good little helper. One day, he picked a tiny flower and put it behind Amelia's ear and said, "Look Katie, Amelia looks like a beautiful little angel!" So sweet!

We got to see my grandparents and spend a little time with them. Amelia loved Great-Grandpa! She smiled and cooed and wiggled like crazy when he would talk to her!

We also got to see my "birthday twin", President Heywood. I love this man and was so happy that he got to meet and hold Amelia.

And what's a vacation without a trip to the ER? I woke up one morning with abdominal cramps and nausea, and I didn't think too much of it. I took a shower, and by the end of my shower I was in so much pain I couldn't even stand up. Turns out I had a kidney stone. I am my father's daughter I suppose. Luckily, I was able to pass them, so the whole ordeal lasted about 24 hours. But, I had a MASSIVE headache from all the painkillers. Don't do drugs kids.
My mom said that morphine was my best friend.
And just a few more pictures...
Millie Mae loves the water!

2 Months

One more post for today! Mille Mae turned 2 months old yesterday! Gosh, I love this little gal! Her are a few photos!

Adventures

I'm pretty sure that everyone already knows that Dave LOVES adventures, and that I love to follow him on them. I've gone so many new places that I never thought I would with him. So its no wonder that we are starting Amelia early with her adventuring.

We took our friends Kaylee and Daren up to Mt. Diablo. It's so pretty up there, and on a clear day you can see for ages! I love it! It was a little bit windy and I laughed as Amelia's reflexes kicked in, poor girl could hardly catch her breath! She gasped every time the wind hit her in the face which was often!
Cute Daylee family!

On Memorial Day, we went with our friends the Gilbert's to Mt. Tamalpias. I'm pretty sure that Amelia and their son will get married someday. :) He's such a cutie pie! Dave and I have hiked Tamalpias before and I remember it being a lot easier, with fewer rocks and an easier path! Dave made me nervous wince this was our first hike with Amelia, and he was wearing her in the front pack for the first time as well! Plus, I was wearing flip flops...oops. But We made it to the top and it was gorgeous.

Last weekend we went up to Lake Tahoe with our friends! I must say it was a little more stressful than I thought it would be. It was our first weekend away with Amelia, and I'm sure I was more stressed than I needed to be anyway. I never imagined that a miniature human would need 3 times the amount of stuff that Dave and I needed! I think I was packing for 2 days. I thought i was way overpacked, but I ended up using everything I packed. Except the stroller, didn't end up needing that. On the way up we stopped with Scott and Jenn to get some Costa Vida. Man, I love those burritos. I am not even ashamed that I could eat one whole, I just never do so that I can enjoy it for 2 days. I'm a foodie. I also love Horchata, like I love it. Yumm, my mouth is salivating.

On Saturday, we all went up to Lake Angora. It was about an hour drive around Lake Tahoe, and was so beautiful. We stopped at Emerald Bay to snap a couple photos.

I wish I had taken some pictures up at  Lake Angora. I didn't even think about it since I was just relaxing and holding Amelia. Dave swam in the Lake for about an hour and did some cliff jumping, he said it was wonderful. I enjoyed just watching everyone, holding my baby girl, and getting some sun. It was such a calm and peaceful lake. It's a little hidden gem. Dave and I can't wait to get back up there. Like I said I forgot to take pictures up at the Lake, but we did remember to take one on the hike down! Better than nothing I guess!

Love and Cuddles

I have always loved to be held. Being held gives me a sense of security, peace, and most of all love. I love hugs, and embracing and being close. I remember as a child, my mom would rock me in our big brown Lazy Boy chair. She would hold me and rock me on the swing outside on our front porch. I especially loved being on that swing with her during a summer rainstorm.

As I have gotten older, I still love to be held. I love cuddling up to Dave. I love when we are out somewhere and he puts his arm around me. I love cuddling with my dogs. Call me crazy, but I love having the dogs sleep in bed with me just so I can cuddle them.

Having Amelia has brought my cuddling obsession to a new level. When she was first born, I don't think I hardly ever put her down. It was hard for me to let anyone else hold her, even Dave. I love being able to smell her sweet scent and hear all her little grunts and noises. However, I as much as I also knew that I wanted her to sleep in her own bed. We started by putting her in a bassinet by our bed. That way she was close to me at night and I didn't have to go far to nurse her and put her back to sleep. I figured that she'd be able to stay in a bassinet till around 4 months or so. Not so, not so! This little babe of mine is so strong and definitely takes after her mama in the sense that she moves ALL over in her sleep. At 6 weeks old, she had already rolled over 4 times! (Not that she knows what she is doing, she is just so strong that she flips herself right on over!) Anyway, I quickly learned that we would need to trade the bassinet for her crib. So my little baby is in her own room in such a big bed! She sleeps really well though. Usually sleeping at least 4 to 5 hours stretches at night, if not more. Amelia usually wakes up between 5 and 7 in the morning.

This is my favorite part of my day. I bring Millie Mae into the bed with Dave and I, where I nurse her and get my morning cuddles in. It never takes long for her to fall back asleep. She scootches down and gets all comfortable, grunting, sighing, and cooing, until she drifts off into her own little dream world, and I have my own whole world right there with Dave and my baby.

Our Family and Blogging

Welcome to the Haupt family blog. I've tried to blog before and I must admit, I was pretty terrible at it.  I mean really, who wants to read about my life? I'm not sure I even want to write about it, but I need a new hobby and I can always delete it, right? Just a little introduction, although I'm sure if you are reading my blog, then you already know who we are. Dave and I met about 3 and a half years ago in a Singles ward. His opening line was telling me that I smelled like a horse. How romantic? We dated and got married for time and all eternity on June 15th, 2012 (almost 2 years!!). We just had our first baby, Amelia Mae (often referred to as Millie Mae). Parenthood is the greatest adventure I've embarked on thus far! Dave works at a small alarm company as a Sales Director and is a Wrestling coach with his own wrestling school. I haven't returned to work as a Skating Director, so I've been home taking care of little miss. I think this introduction is now becoming painstakingly boring, so thats where I'll leave you for now.
